Power Macintosh

The Power Macintosh, later referred to as Power Mac, is a series of personal computers developed by Apple Computer, Inc. as the core of the Macintosh brand from March 1994 to August 2006.

Described as “the most significant technical evolution of the Macintosh since the introduction of the Mac II in 1987,” the Power Macintosh was the first computer to feature the PowerPC CPU architecture. Since existing software for the Motorola 68k processors in earlier Macintosh models did not run natively on it, a Mac 68k emulator was included in System 7.1.2. It provided strong compatibility, performing at roughly two-thirds the speed of contemporary Macintosh Quadra machines.
