PowerBook Duo Expansion Options

Comments
The Duo Dock is used to turn a PowerBook Duo subnotebook into a fully functioning desktop computer. PowerBook Duo subnotebooks have only two built-in ports: an optional RJ-11 modem port and a serial port for a printer or external modem. The Duo Dock adds an optional internal hard drive, 1.4 MB floppy disk drive, and a wide array of standard Macintosh and PowerBook ports. The Duo Dock has two NuBus slots for internal expansion cards. The Dock adds 512K VRAM (video RAM) with a slot for an additional 512K VRAM SIMM. The VRAM allows the Dock to display a variety of resolutions and 16-bit color. With this docking solution, when you want to take your work with you, you simply press the eject button on the Duo Dock and the PowerBook Duo laptop slides out, ready for computing wherever you go.

Note #1:
  • This system is slightly thicker than other PowerBook Duo computers and will not physically fit into the original Duo Dock. The PowerBook Duo Top Cover Upgrade (p/n M1814Z/A) is an enlarged top cover which will allow the Duo Dock to accommodate all of PowerBook Duo computers. An upgraded Duo Dock will also support a monitor of up to 85 pounds such as an Apple 21" Color Display. Without retrofitting, the Duo Dock will support a monitor of up to 35 pounds, such as an Apple 14" Color Display.

Note #2:
  • This system cannot utilize the 68882 math coprocessor (FPU) if installed in the Duo Dock.
